1. Encourage Independence
Have your kindergartner practice completing independent tasks without your help. Add more tasks as they become successful. Ideas include: * Getting dressed independently - Putting on their own winter gear (snow pants, boots, coat, hats, mittens) - Zipping their coat - Putting on shoes and tying their laces * Opening lunch items without help * Picking up after themselves * Becoming responsible for their school materials - Charging their chromebook, logging into Clever and Seesaw, entering and exiting live meetings |
3. Writing
Have your kindergartner practice writing their name with a pencil. Make sure they start with a capitol letter, followed by lowercase. A name plate went home as a visual. As your kindergartner becomes a writer they will go through many stages. Pictures tell the story first, followed by labeling things they are drawing. Inventive spelling, or phonetic spelling, is the next step that your kindergartner will go through on their journey to become a writer. 4. Math
Math and numbers are all around us! Dice, cards, dominoes, puzzles and board games are great ways to encourage early math skills. The following site offers great suggestions to parents for ways they can support their kindergartner at home: https://www.dreambox.com/parent-tips-kindergarten |
